The Story of Melrose

A Place of Power

On the ruins of an old mission station, deep in the picturesque Khomas Highlands, a special place was created: the Melrose Mission Lodge. Renovated in 2024 with great attention to detail, it now combines historical spirit with modern comfort – stylish, authentic, unique.

The Nama of the Gai Khaun tribe called this the “place of the strong vein,” alluding to the high-quality water that springs from the ground here.

The Vision

Farmer and hunter Max Kluckner discovered the old ruins on one of his tours – and immediately fell in love with this historic place. With great respect for the past, he embarked on an ambitious project: The careful restoration of the old mission station.

Five years of intensive work went into gathering natural stones, wood, and rock slabs from the region and building them onto the existing structure. The result is more than just a lodge—it is a place for encounters, reflection, and inspiration.
